The 2011 West Virginia Wing Cadet Encampment was conducted during the
week of June 25 to July 2, at Camp Dawson National Guard Base, in
Kingwood, WV. The encampment was a great success, with 97 cadets
completing the one week course. Thirteen (13) cadets were from other
Wings (2 - MD, 5 - PA, 5 - OH, and 1 - DC), while the rest were WV
cadets. Every squadron in WV was represented this year at the
encampment. Approximately 67% of the 97 cadets completing the encampment
were first-timers. There were 14 senior members who worked as staff
members for the encampment, as well as several other seniors who served
as instructors during the week.
The encampment was led by C/Major Alancea Grant (Parkersburg Squadron)
and C/Major Brian Kruchkow (Beckley Squadron). They were assisted by
C/Capt Jon Ball (Boone Squadron) and C/Capt Tiffany Staggs (Morgantown
Squadron). The encampment First Sergeant was C/CMSgt Chris Stockdale
(Morgantown Squadron).
At the end of the encampment, numerous awards were presented to cadets
who earned special honors and recognition for their outstanding work
during the activity. Those cadets, and their awards, are as follows:
Outstanding Cadet of the Encampment C/SSgt Chelsey R. Minton
Mercer Squadron
Outstanding Cadet Officer C/Capt Tiffany R. Staggs Morgantown

Second Place C/CMSgt Jacob A. White Mercer Squadron

The above cadets deserve a lot of praise for their hard work, as well as
the senior members who supervised the cadets during the week. Special
recognition goes to Lt Col David Caudill, Encampment Deputy Commander,
who really planned a great many of the activities.
A special treat this year at the encampment was the opportunity to
obtain orientation flights in both a Black Hawk helicopter and a C-130
aircraft. These flights were in addition to the rappel tower, leadership
reaction course, firing range, electronic range, land and water survival
classes, WV wildlife class, plus the confidence course. It was a very
busy week, capped off by an impressive Pass and Review Parade and
graduation ceremony. Camp Dawson officials had nothing but praise for
the conduct and attitude of our cadets. All the cadets who completed the
encampment should be very proud of their accomplishment.
Plan now to attend the 2012 Cadet Encampment, scheduled from July 6
14, at Camp Dawson.
