2018 WV Wing Encampment

The West Virginia Wing will be conducting its 2018 Cadet Summer Encampment from July 7th- July, 14th, at Camp Dawson, WV.  Camp Dawson which is located in Kingwood, WV, is the training base for the West Virginia National Guard and Army Special Forces.  The base provides lots of interesting activities and tours for the participants.

Applications for the encampment must be made on the Application for Encampment or Special Activity (CAPF-31).  In addition, applicants must also submit Medical Information Forms (CAPF-160, 161, and 163), an Air Transportation Agreement Form (DD-1381), along with a check or money order for the encampment fee.   Cadets under the age of 18 years cannot sign the DD-1381 form.  It must be signed by a parent or guardian.

The cost for this year’s encampment is $75 for WV cadets and $200 for out of wing cadets. 

Applications for the encampment must be received NLT June 16th.  

We are in the process of setting up the schedule of activities for the encampment.  If all goes well, we will have the rappelling tower, the Leadership Development Course, and the firing range on the schedule again this year.  This is addition to the land and water survival courses, the climbing wall, confidence course, Black Hawk helicopter o-rides, C130 o-rides, and other outstanding training activities that are normally conducted. 

We will use the WV Wing Facebook Page for the Encampment information and will post photos and announcements on that page during the encampment week.

Cadets interested in applying for a Cadet Executive Staff positions must have their application to me no later than April 7th Cadet staff positions will be decided by a selection panel.  Cadets that are applying for a Cadet Executive Staff position will be required to obtain an endorsement from their Squadron Commander, submit a CAP resume, and may be required to stand in front of an Encampment Cadet Staff selection panel.  Instructions will be provided to those that apply.  

Senior members interested in applying for staff positions must have their applications in by June 1 and will be expected to report to camp on July 6th.  Senior applicants must comply with the requirements of CAPR 60-1 and the WV Wing Supplement to that regulation.

Cadets must have a current membership card to attend the encampment and will report to the encampment with a proper haircut.  Cadets are not allowed to bring cell phones, laptop computers, or iPads/tablets to the encampment.

Steps to apply for Encampment:

1.       Download and fill out the Encampment forms and instructions.

2.       Have your Squadron Commander sign it. (If you are an out of state cadet, follow the procedures set by your Wing)

3.       Scan or take clear photos of your application to upload it to the online registration from. 

4.       Apply for the Cadet Encampment Assistance Program (Click here)

5.       Go to the below link and fill out the online Encampment Registration Form

6.      Mail your encampment fee payment to:

The encampment fee is to be made payable to the "West Virginia Wing Summer Encampment" and the cadet's name and CAP ID listed in the memo line. 

 7. Download the required and suggested clothing and equipment list.

Do not mail your application to the WV Wing Headquarters! That will only delay the process and possibly prevent your application from being received by the deadline.

    From Morgantown:

        1.)  Follow Rt. 7 East to Kingwood

        2.)  Continue following Rt. 7 East through Kingwood

        3.)  Follow signs for entrance to Camp Dawson

    From Hancock/Maryland/Points East

        1.)  Follow I-68 West to Exit 23 - Bruceton Mills (WV Rt 26)

        2.)  Turn LEFT on WV 26

        3.)  Turn RIGHT on WV 7 (in Kingwood)

        4.)  Follow signs for Entrance to Camp Dawson
